Somewhere In Between begins with grief and the difficulty of giving a feeling a fixed shape. Across the collection, a head-and-shoulders silhouette becomes a recurring form: recognisable, but never presented in quite the same relationship to its surroundings.
Colour and scale work together. A narrow field can compress the figure; an open field can leave it isolated. Neither colour nor size is a complete explanation on its own. The paintings are meant to be encountered together, allowing the differences between them to remain visible without assigning a single emotion to every canvas.
The work continues around the object. Painted reverse surfaces and stretcher bars bring attention to parts of a canvas that are usually hidden. Front, reverse and room photographs offer different ways to encounter the same piece rather than additional artworks in the series.
Four painted canvases and one unpainted design.
Each painted canvas is one of one. Scale, composition and colour belong to that work, front and back. Smaller originals will have their own combinations.
Look around the edges. The reverse is part of the painting.
Collection size references against a six-foot figure. These are not confirmed dimensions for the individual canvases shown above.
Interested in a smaller original? Ask about forthcoming one-of-one works. Dimensions and colour combinations will be confirmed for each finished canvas.
