Donda University · shared setting
Donda University is a shared setting across these stories. A shared campus does not establish that their protagonists are the same person.
These are imagined film credits and creative influences, not production collaborators.
Story
Kanye and Victor have been best friends since diaper days. Kanye, the only child of a single mother, and Victor, the oldest of 3 siblings. Throughout their youth, Victor has always been there to protect and advise Kanye. Kanye is very much an introvert; Victor has always been the guy everyone loves — captain of the basketball team, valedictorian.
As high school ends, Victor decides he wants to go to Donda University in L.A. on a full scholarship. Kanye applied and got accepted, but his mother can't afford the tuition, forcing him to a community college. Heartbroken, Kanye isn't ready for the separation.
Fast forward to him starting community college, still feeling uneasy. His social awkwardness makes his peers uncomfortable, so he just goes to class and back home to watch TV. On their weekly FaceTimes, Victor mentions shows and artists he's into — Kanye jumps to the same mediums, learning everything he can about them.
One night, Kanye tries to FaceTime Vic but he doesn't pick up. A text arrives in caps: leave him alone, he's busy on a date. Kanye's mom sees the sadness and offers to pay for a trip to L.A. to visit for a long weekend.
Vic picks Kanye up from the airport, smoking a blunt — a new habit. His lingo, his vibe, everything about him is different now. Vic shows him around campus, introducing him to a lot of people; all Kanye has to contribute are the shows and artists Vic put him onto. That night they pregame for a party — Vic's friend Andrew tells Kanye to pace himself, and Kanye sticks with him for most of the night.
At the party, drunk, Kanye hooks up with a girl upstairs — being a virgin, he's lost and embarrassed, and throws up on her mid-sex. She leaves screaming and crying. Panicking, Kanye finds Andrew, who calms him down and walks back with him — they find Vic mid-hookup with Taylor, who screams when she hears what happened to her friend (Stephanie). Taylor leaves despite Vic's efforts. Awkward silence; they agree to figure it out in the morning.
The next morning is awkward. Vic and Andrew get breakfast — Andrew defends Kanye, saying it wasn't cool to laugh. They see Kanye off at the airport; Vic says he loves him, hopes he had a good weekend regardless.
The following weekend, Vic tells Kanye he's joining a fraternity and will have to give up his phone and cut off communication for a few months. Kanye supports him, though it throws him off. Time passes — Andrew, polite but guarded, says Vic's doing well and almost done with the process.
A break comes where Vic is supposed to come home but stays in L.A. instead. Hurt, Kanye waits for the next one. When Vic finally comes home, he talks about his fraternity experience — the two meet for a drink but don't have much to talk about anymore. The relationship feels forced.
On his way home, Kanye realizes the friendship has drifted and stops calling as much. Whenever Vic comes back, they catch up — the same reminiscing, the same surface questions, but no deeper than that.
They both know they'll always be there for each other, regardless of whatever path each of them is headed on.
Real friends. Til the real end. Til the reel ends.
